6. SALT SPRING
This addition and renovation of a 1992 Osburn/Clarke house provided an opportunity to revisit and reimagine an old project to meet the needs of a new client. The design links the existing main house and garage by way of a new covered walkway - an indoor-outdoor space that leads up to an expanded and remodeled suite, and an extended deck overlooking the waters off the island.
Both the walkway and the upper deck are enclosed with a system of folding and sliding glazed doors, allowing them to open up in the summer months and close down in cooler weather. By keeping with the language of the existing building, the new merges seamlessly with the old. However, through a series of interior interventions (in collaboration with Richard Salter Interiors) and extensive landscaping (in collaboration with Rusnak Gallant), the result is a fresh interpretation of the original design.
