10. PILE HOUSE
Located in behind a rolling meadow, this house sits in a dip on the property. Imagining the house as a pier in the ocean, the main floor was raised on piles ten feet off the ground, with a dock-like access ramp leading up to the main deck. This height allows for expansive views of the water past the stretch of meadow, while creating covered spaces below at grade.
The building is separated into its social and living spaces. The two halves are linked with a continuous roof structure with deep overhangs, creating generous covered outdoor spaces for living and eating. The house is the main element in a small complex of buildings including a separate guest house and a storage shed, sited at various elevations on the property.
