9. CLEARWATER LAKE HOUSE
In collaboration with Febres Consulting Ltd.
Nestled into the rocky surround of Clearwater Lake, on the outskirts of Sudbury, Ontario, this residence was designed for a young, growing family. Sited parallel to the lake, the building is long and narrow, allowing for views to the water across its entire length. Physical and visual access to the lake are at the centre of this building. The entry cuts straight through the house, to an exterior deck, with stair and boardwalk access down toward the lake. This main core also separates the communal, social half of the house from the private half. To extend the usability of the outdoor living area through the buggy season, the patio to the south-west of the house is enclosed with large, retractable screens. When rolled away, the patio and deck act as a single, seamless exterior space.
